Causes of prices and employment crisis”
Analysis results showed that young people’s perceived economic distress index was the highest among all age groups due to employment difficulties and rising prices.
The Federation of Korean Industries quantifies the economic difficulties felt by the people.
As a result of calculating the perceived economic pain index by generation using the economic pain index (unemployment rate + inflation rate), it was revealed on the 14th that the perceived economic pain index of young people (ages 15 to 29) was 25.1 as of the first half of this year, the highest among all age groups.
The perceived economic distress index by generation is the sum of the perceived unemployment rate and inflation rate by age group.

The Federation of Korean Industries explained, “As price increases are concentrated in areas where young people spend a lot, those who are preparing for employment or with low income are taking a direct hit from the rising cost of living.”
The frozen job market also added to the economic difficulties of young people.
The perceived unemployment rate for youth in the first half of this year was 19.9%, which was lower than before the coronavirus but higher than that of other age groups.
The supply and demand imbalance in the labor market, where the pace of growth in jobs preferred by young people cannot keep up with the pace of increase in college graduates, is considered a major cause of youth employment difficulties.
This is because while the number of college graduates produced between 2017 and 2020 was 2.234 million, the number of new highly educated jobs was only 1.264 million, or only half.
